Thank you so much for this information. I have a lot of young folks in my life and they vote but not in the primary. I did not even know about primaries until I was an adult, so no shade! But I want to do my part and encourage people to get out and participate, especially since we have a jungle primary here in CA.
I didn't even know we're to start and this is exactly what I needed!
I’ve been wanting to do this ever since first hearing about you hosting ballot club! Maybe this will be my year to try it! Thank you for sharing your slides as an example.
You can get a lot of candidate information from the League of Women Voters’ website vote411.org! Most local leagues manage their area’s part of this site themselves by sending all local candidates a list of questions which the candidates answer in their own words on the site. I was in charge of the Charleston, SC league’s Vote411 site for a few years and would be happy to answer any questions!
I just hosted a ballot party for our spring elections in Wisconsin! It was a resounding success—we had a lot of local races and had a group of 8 adults chatting in my living room while the kids watched a movie downstairs.
I did put together some info on the races and what the offices do (we all got to review the court system), but we also just shared what we all knew, and that ended up being my favorite part.
The few people who couldn’t come shared what a great idea it was, and even stopped by my driveway when they saw me, to hear what they missed. Thank you Beth for originally sharing the idea a few years ago. This is the local work that I want to do, and feel capable of doing!
I did this for local and state races in the 2024 election with a bipartisan group in a part of that gets together to talk about politics and it was so much fun. I was as non partisan I could be with all the races except one where the candidate was just a complete joke (he replied to the local newspapers interview questions, but the answer is made absolutely no sense). I'm excited to do it again this year!
Hosting my Ballot Club on Sunday! Thank you for this wonderful idea, Beth!
