Started viewing Oprah when I was 33 with my youngest age three. We kept the ritual up until he went to college :-) bonding moment. However as years went by was skeptical of her choices and The Secret just lost me. She seemed to get more arrogant as time went by when she said she changed sheets everyday and never left a used bar of soap in the guest bathroom. Who has time or $$ for that? Yet she did platform Rachael Ray who in her earlier years did provide good ideas and had good charities. Rays cookbook after her house fire was a gem and she illustrated humility. But will never forgive O for Dr. Oz and Phil and the Harry Megan Markle interview . . .
This was a surprise to my inbox today, but a pleasent one, even though I am one of those who went thru some angst about Oprah and Phil and Oz. But Oprah's good affected me also, a 78 year old gay male ... actually for many years far more asexual male. I am educated, accomplished in my careers, not happy but not unhappy. I am who and what I am, at this point. I do not lack for friends, but also do not long for attention. I am comfortable with my own personal, independent support of myself. I truly owe much of that to Oprah. So your piece's point that the good she has given us outweights the few missteps ... spot on. And lets be honest. Phil and Oz were not their true selves to Oprah, or to us. Trump, like he has done with every single supporter, has given people to be their worst selves, as often inhuman as that is. And whatever those two guys were hiding under a rock surfaced with him. I no longer blame her for not knowing what no one knew. Oprah has done more good for more people than any other media presence I can think of. Perfect? No. That is an inane standard, and a suspicious one. Thanks for this.
