So so late to the party but just wanted to say: while I agree with Sarah’s and Sen Gillibrand’s point personally, I think Beth is making an excellent point and thinking outside the box in a way that could be really helpful to dems. Like, okay apparently being a sexual predator is not a disqualified for reps (Possibly even a prerequisite?). But let’s use their own criteria and show how this person is not qualified even by their own standards. Make a point to find *something* from their side (id say not even to use project 2025 since Trump has distanced himself from it) and interrogate him about it. Here’s my best attempt…
President trump has made it clear that his priority will be to put America first in his second term. What will it look like for you to support this priority as it relates to (the use of AI, presence in the Middle East, idk some very specific military thing)? And then lots of follow up questions.
I just got around to listening to this episode and I am feeling truly conflicted and questioning if I belong here. I have the full respect for Sarah and Beth and their careful analysis of the topics they cover. I just can't get over how the focus is always on the hostages and not the ABSOLUTE decimation of Palestine and the tens of thousand murdered Palestinians. There are THOUSANDS of Palestinian hostages that have been raped, beaten, starved and murdered, but no focus on it other than "there is lot of suffering". I pray that this platform does not got the way of "legacy" media and start sane washing this administration. We all know that kushner has financial ties to Israel and there are for sure some kick backs that are happening behind closed doors. Just today I saw a reputable video clip of the orange felon claim that Palestine has a lot of beautiful weather and beach front property that will need to be developed....Tell me he does not have deal with the netanyahu and that is why he was holding out on the ceasefire all these months. I feel I am in the twilight zone. Suffering is suffering, but I guess some counts more than others.
A video for Sarah, in which Adam Savage unboxes a care package of mechanical pencils from Pentel (after thanking fans for sending him his favorite pencil). As my husband said, it's weirdly satisfying to watch.
After listening to yesterday's episode and the outside of politics portion about pens, pencils, and stationary, I was compelled to post here about a really fun get together I am planning with a friend! We obviously agree with Beth that wonderful stationary is a true delight in life! So, we are hosting a Galentine's Day party for a bunch of friends and each person is bringing a package of eight notecards or stationary. When everyone arrives, each person will lay out all eight from their package on a table or countertop. Then we will all take turns looking at the choices and selecting eight different notecards or pieces of stationary (that we did not personally bring) so when we leave the gathering, we will have an eclectic variety pack! I think it is going to be so fun!
Pencils have their place but I’m a pen gal. I’m a fine-point girlie and finally found what works best for me. LOVE a blue-black ink (Zebra Sarasa Clip in 0.4mm), fun colored-black ink (Zebra Sarasa Grand 0.5mm in Vintage colors such as Blue Gray or Bordeaux Purple). Favorite for color-coding planner is Pilot HI-TEC-C Coleto. It’s a customizable multi-pen. Choose 2, 3, 4, or 5 color body, then fill with the ink color & tip size you want. Even has a pencil insert!
Now that Tik Tok is gone, I see the truth of Beth's statement that politicians did not explain the reasoning behind this starkly. Whether or not you agree with the ban, many of the outlandish statements I am seeing about it are not true.
Ok but how do we convince Democratic senators to change their tactics on confirmation hearings and the larger messaging strategy at large? Like I agree wholeheartedly with here critiques, but I don’t know how to get that message to break through to the people who need to hear it??? Any ideas what us average citizens can do, especially if we are represented by two Republican senators?
Please take this with a grain of salt coming from someone in a very blue bubble in purplish California; but I think that the blue dots in these red states need to find each other and organize. By no means do I say this lightly or assume it’s not happening, but somehow YOUR voice and message needs to break through the noise of the 24/7 fuk news. I think it’s time to break out of the comfort zone of politeness and reverence for elders and support younger candidates. I think it’s time for the “gloves” to come off and fight/resist in the same way gop does. Not to be crass, but these old people are on the way out, what they do affects our children. At this point we are just making more amazon and walmart workers because that’s who owns this country, not “The People”, it’s now 3 corporations.
Oh trust me, we are trying over here in Indiana. I co-run a social media account in Indiana focused on making calls to action that are reasonable to try to move the needle.
The difficult thing is severe voter apathy and suppression and terrible gerrymandering. We also need the national party to invest more in the state parties but we are trying to build uo our local parties as well.
It all sucks when there are just 40 democrats to 110 republicans in our general assembly.
Absolutely! I sincerely hope my comment didn’t come off as you weren’t doing the work. That was not my intention.
I think the time has come for the Dem party to be equally held accountable for supporting their aging members (Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Shumer I am looking at you) and you are correct, why should young people vote or care when it feels like no one is looking out for them. Somehow WE need to find the messaging for them and how they do matter and count and that their involvement can make in-roads to these very gerrymandered areas. We have a long road ahead, but if we don’t build these communities, we are going to become El Salvador 😞
Listen to or read the transcript from Ezra Klein on Trumps domination of attention. Think that’s key to some of the downfall of the Harris Trump contest BUT remember that the margin was small for Trump 1.5 percent. He does not have a landslide at all. And suspect he’s already disappointing some diehard followers. I have realized over this election season that my hubby and I have not been in the same universe as many of our rural KS age mates (people 65 to 100). Yes we have a number of folks living that long in our town now. We just do not consume cable news and now online podcasts like our peers. At the coffee shop and restaurants we always hear the misinformation talking points verbatim stated as actual fact. Our people hate it when we provide verification that the misinformation is false. But we keep giving it. I think people really want to be mislead. It validates their own worst thoughts and assumptions. Not a hopeful picture BUT just keep sharing the truth with people. It makes them uncomfortable and that’s good.
If you are interested in more information on the hearings Lawfare has had good coverage of some of the hearings. They cover primarily National Security so they are covering the nominations in that space and have had reporters at the hearings. They have covered Hegseth, Blondi, Rubio and Ratcliff.
I am down w/Cuban and his FU money being a thorn in the side. Esp when the bloom is off the rose, which when grocery prices do not go down should be pretty quickly.
My first Blackwing pencils just arrived this week so I felt like you were talking to me! They are amazing. I have my favorite click pen (Pilot Precise V5) but these days, I use my Lamy Safari fountain pen. Sarah, when you were talking about different colored ink I was like GIRL, GET YOURSELF A FOUNTAIN PEN. The Lamy Safari is a reasonably priced gateway pen. You won’t regret it!
Listen ... I like nice things and am happy to pay for them. I also appreciate a good deal. With that being said, Ticonderoga #2 pencils are sensibly priced and high quality. They are great for planners and lists. On the pen front, Pilot G2 would be my preference for the boldness of the ink; however, they smear too much, and since they do, the Bic Round Stic is what I use most often.

Dear Sarah and Beth and all of KY - I’m hearing Mitch is leaning no on Hegseth! Pleass call him if you can!

Blackwings are on my desk at work. I have a longer commute and they really bring me a bit of joy for enduring it.
Stationery. Pens. Pencils. My heart.

Ladies, do you know if anyone in congress listens to you guys? I really hope some Dems listen and think about what you’ve said.
I’m pretty sure Doug Emhoff might? I think I saw that he follows them on IG
Wait what?!?!?
Maggie lol

Pilot G2 FOREVER!
