In the aftermath of the last presidential election, while reading through the posts in our various community spaces, I thought, "Pantsuit Politics needs a film club. And the first film should be Women Talking." Lucky for me, the PP team was down for just such a thing and here we are.
Why Women Talking? Because thematically it's relevant in multiple ways, but most of all it's about communicating IN community. And after all, what IS Pantsuit Politics? It's women talking. It's thinking you're wrong, but still listening. It's keeping it nuanced, y'all.
Cinema is a powerful art form: it tells stories, builds empathy, reflects culture. When we sit down to watch a movie, we are opening our minds to new experiences and perspectives. Movies can offer an escape from reality, but they also reflect reality back to us. This summer we're going to watch together. I've chosen three pairs of films to discuss—LIVE!—on topics of communication, relationship, identity, technology, and more.
Tuesday, June 24, 7:30 pm Eastern: Women Talking and 12 Angry Men
Tuesday, July 22, 7:30 pm Eastern: Her and Where'd You Go, Bernadette
Tuesday, August 19, 7:30 pm Eastern: Barbie and Réponse de femmes: Notre corps, notre sexe
I hope you'll grab your popcorn and settle in for a good time and stimulating conversation. Our live events will be on Zoom, so you get to talk, too! I can't wait to see you, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. (Film clubs are a low-stakes way to practice disagreeing.)
We're also going to (gently) elbow our way into the Pantsuit Politics Book Club Facebook Group, so dust off your creaky Facebook account and join us over there. (Thanks, Maggie!)
Norma
P.S. Watch as close to the discussion date as possible. If you've already seen a film on the list, watch it again if you can.
P.P.S. Film Club extras will be added to this Google Drive folder

You’ll hear from our team, from some very special guests, and, we imagine, from each other in rich comment threads. These meditations will just be …
Something Nice to Take You Into the Weekend

Beth: I read Original Sin, obviously, and needed to lighten my life up! “Joey Votto and Steph Curry found a secret to workplace happiness. You can, too” (The Athletic) fit the bill.
Alise: Listening to all the coverage of Original Sin - including ours!
Maggie: The Man Who Knew When to Step Down (David French | New York Times Opinion) And to be honest, I’ve also been clowning about whether or not Taylor Swift is about to release Reputation (Taylor’s Version) with all the other Swifties.
