As a proud Kansas Citian, I absolutely loved to outside politics conversation! I moved to the KC Metro from a smaller Kansas town as a newlywed straight out of college almost 23 years ago. Although I am on the Kansas side (specifically in Overland Park), it really feels like one city that just happens to straddle the state line. And yes, when traveling and people ask where we are from, we always say "Kansas City".... the differentiation from the rest of the state of KS feels significant. I love the visual of the 435-loop being a clock....I am gonna use that in the future!

The stadium conversation was interesting and I don't have super strong feelings about it. I don't follow football as much and have been to Arrowhead Stadium more times for concerts than I have for football (including the Taylor Swift concert where Travis reportedly gave her that friendship bracelet with his number. 😊) But I've been a Royals fan my whole life. I love going to other cities with a downtown stadium with things to do surrounding it, so I see the appeal. But then there is a tiny part of me that is nostalgic for the Kauffman stadium where I have been going to watch games since before I can even remember, so I will be a little sad when they find a place to move.

Listening to Sarah explain uncapping the house to Jason was a delight.

I also really appreciate Sarah’s comments about how whether it’s a red state or a blue state, we aren’t trying new things. I live in Utah, and so right now I caucus with the Republicans. I am my neighborhood precinct chair (a job I led a coup for because the past chair was so bad, but hey, he is in prison now, so no longer my problem) and really don’t want to be anymore. I was telling someone why I didn’t want the job anymore. I told him I was against super majorities and was tired of the stupid projects Republicans are taking up in our state. He said, “Well, you don’t want to be like California or New York!” To which I said, “Exactly. I am against super majorities.” He could not comprehend what I was saying.

When I lived in Seattle, I became a precinct committee officer and experienced exactly the super majority effect you're talking about. There's no debate, just one way to do things. Now I'd welcome ranked voting and a parliamentary system. We don't just need more representatives, we need more parties, more coalitions and shared power.

I felt everyone needed a visual to support Jason’s statement that they really did a number to Kansas City

This is from the Missouri Independent:

You gotta see the zoomed in version… KC is carved up into 3 sections… one that represents the entire northern Iowa border…

The second image is before gerrymandering… KC is its own section…

I agree with uncapping the house but I think if Democrats took that as an issue or a goal, it would be such an easy target for Republicans. More not less government? More corruption? More expense? I don’t know how you sell that to the general public in a way that would persuade low information voters.

I think the way they discussed it is exactly the sell: you and your neighbors should have a say in governing this country. We want more citizens involved. A larger house does not equal “bigger government”—“big government” is about sprawling bureaucracy and overreach to people who see that as a dirty word. So the sell is “it could be you but at a Minimum, you will have the opportunity to have your voice heard if your representative doesn’t have so many constituents that he has no email address and a word limit capped submission form that spits out a form response. They government, in having more members, is more responsive to the average citizen, thereby making size and overreach less of an issue.

I also wonder what would happen to money in politics if his happened—is it Pollyanna of me to think campaigns would naturally be less high dollar? That billionaires wouldn’t want to get involved in hundreds more races that impact much smaller districts?

Sarah, talk to your stylist about “lived in gray”—I stopped coloring my hair almost a decade ago but the gray hair is such a different texture and growing in patchy so it was bugging me and I wanted more. She added a bunch of thin natural looking pieces highlighted and toned the best shade of gray to compliment my natural tone. I go like 2x / year for some maintenance pieces to be added in but otherwise she just retones them when I go for my haircuts. And I get compliments on my hair alllll the time now, and honestly, it’s just so flattering for my skin too.

I aspire to go sexy gray, so this is very helpful!

I love this! My boss is in her late 50s and during the pandemic took all the dyed color out of her hair and transitioned to gray all the time. She looks so classy! I love it.

“Doing some hanky panky with the laws” is my new favorite phrase and I think I may have to steal that one. 🤣
