Yes! I needed this amongst a busy season with a preschool grad (cue the weeping) and so many stacked work deadlines (I project manage federal grant writing for climate resiliency work: no shortage of dollars or programs!). I love my work and I love my daughter, and that is good. But I needed that perspective of 10-15 years down the road: what do I want her to grow up remembering? The answer for me—seeing me present to her life—and in work that is fulfilling. Thank you!!
I just left a deeply-loved job (as in, today!) so I can stay home with my 10-month-old son, and am having every single feeling about it. It is the right choice for me, but wow, am I struggling with it. I needed this today!
Literally reading this in the early stages of labor with my first child. I went fully freelance as a writer the same month I got pregnant and it’s both beautiful and terrifying. Thank you for this pep talk.❤️ I needed it today!
I love this Sarah! And the idea of a pep talk from my future self. Last year was chock full of really hard things that I'm still recovering from. I may need my future self to help.
Work/life balance requires constant adjustment. My motto heading into 2024 was "Do Less. BE more." I have it on a letterboard in my entryway that I see every day. It's been so helpful to recognize that saying no to all the busy-ness and letting myself really be present is integral to my health. I even have scheduled quiet time and cherish it. Thanks for always speaking to the places in my psyche that need encouragement.
