Our county fair hosts local food trucks and one of them does the bbq nachos and yes, that seems to be what I gravitate towards. And there’s a local ice cream truck where I usually get a root beer float.
OMG RIBBON POTATOES YES!!!! It’s the only way I’ll survive the 4th of July carnival this weekend when it’s 5,000,000 degrees. Oh and mini fresh donuts. And a lemon shake up. 😋 the perfect meal. 🤤
Sometime you should go to the Evansville, Indiana West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. One of the biggest street fairs - 130+ food booths (all supporting local clubs, churches, and sports) and it’s in October, not the heat of July or August!
Apple cider, Fried pork tenderloin sandwiches, and all the funnel cake and elephant ears you could hope for!
Minnesota’s State Fair is the best and my hubby and I were excited to see the live show date corresponded with the great get together! Being from NW MN, love making a fun weekend of all my favorite things!
Yay! I grew up in NW MN and now live in the Twin Cities... it's going to be a fabulous weekend! I'm going to opening day at the State Fair, then to the Spice Convention... then it's my birthday. Can. Not. Wait. :)
From Michigan hails the elephant ear. A lovely classic right next to a funnel cake. But having lived in Montana for ten years now, let me introduce to you fry bread: an indigenous classic, often made into tacos and it is incredible.
I'm reading 1776 by David McCullough now. Will start Rick Atkinson's first book when I'm finished with it. I've known the facts behind the Revolutionary War, but McCullough cites diaries and letters that really hit home with me about all the physical suffering, fear, disease and disadvantages Washington, his armies and their families faced. Joining Pantsuit Politics got me interested in learning more. This will be a very meaningful 4th for me.
Ok but seriously if you want to come to the Iowa State Fair I bet there are several of us who would love to show you around! You also might be in MN at the correct time to take in the MN State Fair and having lived in both places and attending and working at both fairs, they are both the best. I think Iowa’s is laid out better, but Minnesota has the best food 😜 (please don’t come after me fellow Iowans)
Alright...I had been holding back any excitement for the 250th because I am so dejected by this administration, but this episode was one of two things that have started to bring me around to the sentimental joyfulness.
The other part that has done it is the new Netflix documentary "The American Experiment" that blows it out of the water with recapping the messiness founding while parallelism it with modern and recent connections. This 5 episode series has frank testimonies from Hillary Clinton about the 2016 election and from Mike Pence about the 2020 (and 2000) election. It also features Al Gore, Jamie Raskin, (unfortunately) Ted Cruz, and several other elected officials alongside historians. Most importantly though, George Washington's letters are narrated by Martin Sheen (making my WW heart happy).
Boiled peanuts. Also roasted peanuts. From the peanut capital of the world and National Peanut Festival. But seriously boiled peanuts are elite fair food, also road trip food, and sport food.
I’m helping friends sell ginger beer at a local Scottish Festival the weekend after next, and this got me so excited for all the fair food on hand! I’ve been going for a decade, and I look forward to those pork sandwiches every year!
