I can't read the NYT article about MS schools because of the paywall, and would love PP to consider having a MS public school admin on to talk about the changes! That was such a bright spot of good news amidst all the 💩.
Hahahaha no worries! Ended up listening on Apple Podcasts, but I enjoy watching while I get ready in the morning if I can. It’s my millennial version of my parents’ watching the news every morning. 🤣🤣🤣
I just want to say as a Virginian that has had the pleasure of having Spanberger as my representative and now as my Governor, I'm thrilled to hear the recognition of her quiet competency. She has been renewing my faith in public servants for years now.
Rahm Emanuel has been on my radar as a dark horse since he was on Bill Maher (a phrase that would get me tarred and feathered in other circles!). He's an acquired taste and I like what someone said earlier about how he could be our version of LBJ. That said, he's of Israeli descent, which I'm sure will be a problem, even though he has come out against Netanyahu with regards to Gaza. But I think that getting his policy ideas out there can only help the 2028 discourse and shape an ideas machine that will excite voters.
Also…JD is befriending the donors. He’s been hanging with the Kochs in Montana. Which I think is on brand for him…he sucks up to the money and that’s why i propose we will start seeing money (like Murdoch) “turning” away from DT as a brand refresh in time to turn towards JD as a “not-DT wink wink” candidate.
GI bill covers trade educations/certifications for veterans or dependent currently. So $10K to cover trades is not a new idea. The idea of it being cash rather paid through the existing GI bill/va program I guess would be new…
Current Chapter 33 looks like it would pay up to $29k. Is the proposal LESS money or ADDITIONAL money for paying for those programs?
RE: response: Virginian and long-time Spanberger fan girl here. First off: NO we can NOT talk about her for 2028, you can have her in 2032 after her one term as governor is up! Just let us have nice things! 😆
Also, she’s MUCH more comfortable with a smaller audience and less cameras. I saw her on her campaign kick-off bus tour in June 2025 with less than 200 people by the beach, and she was lose and comfortable, and stuck to her points, but made them well. She’s no Obama, but she’s a smart and competent and…. I DON’T WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED BY A REALITY TV STAR I JUST WANT TO BE GOVERNED. Sorry, that could only be typed in all caps.
As another Virginian, I agree that I want to keep her for a full term!!
Also, some governors want to use that office as a stepping stone, and others thrive there and a bigger stage would be a bad idea. Not sure about Spanberger yet on a bigger stage, but I’m hopeful about her.
As someone who has had many blue collar workers in my ambulance, I think if we really want to draw the young people in we need to make healthcare affordable and retirement at 55, when blue collar backs, shoulders, knees, and necks are starting to complain. Sure, there's good cash in blue collar work, but we don't have a society that supports our blue collar workers when they get sick or hurt and when their bodies inevitably give out long before those of white collar workers.
As the daughter of a blue collar worker, I sure am grateful he came up when unions were strong because those pensions and benefits are a big help now that he is in his 70s
OK, I need to go back and look at Rahm Emmanuel. I have had a chip on my shoulder about him for a very petty reason. Over 10 years ago he kicked an awesome pie shop/cafe out of a Chicago Visitors Center. It was the perfect place to stop at the end of the day for a salad, a soda, or a slice of pie. The business used its proceeds to provide meals to homeless people and to do some job training. But mainly we lived around the corner of the place one summer and really loved those pies.
I chuckled when Beth said “I have so much to say about this!” That could be the title for a More To Say extended version/bonus length edition episode if you ever needed it!
It was interesting to hear how excited you guys were about Rahm. About the only thing I know about him is “Obama’s guy”. I’ve been thinking that the nominee has to have NO attachment to Obama, Clinton, Biden, or any previous administration basically. Are you concerned that MAGA will just weigh him down with their hate and racism of Obama?
They regularly villainize all Dems, so I don't know that it matters much. But I also think that after the corruption and utter lack of any morals shown in this administration, the contrast with the Obama administration is pretty stark. I mean, they were squeaky clean compared to pretty much every other administration in the last few decades... except for that time he wore the tan suit. *eyeroll*
As public school mom in Jackson, MS, thank you for the shout out to the Mississippi miracle. The number of writing worksheets & flashcards sent home from school I’m doing with my kindergartner (& did with his two older sisters) sometimes seems overwhelming, but I’m reminded that this is how the miracle happens. Also- every time you mention Andy Bashear I’m angry he didn’t run for Senate. He could have flipped that seat.
I was interested in the idea of the president needing to take time to answer questions from congress, and the ongoing convo of how congress has been…lacking in responsibility and accountability. Is there anything equivalent to the state of the union but for leaders to their own states? I’d love to hear more from my Idaho Senators and reps beyond their canned email responses to my pleas. A “state of the state” of you will lol

Is anyone else having issues with the video not working?
Yes 😇 the issue is that we posted the audio only on YouTube for the last few weeks just to see if anyone noticed 😁

Same here! I propped the video of Sarah and Beth up on my iPad while I do my hair and makeup!
The video will probably be back soon!

This popped up in my feed today. Thoughts? https://christopherbouzy.substack.com/p/james-talarico-is-a-ticking-time?utm_source=%2Fsearch%2FJames%2520talarico&utm_medium=reader2&utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&triedRedirect=true

I don’t enjoy saying it but I think the only way to even have a chance in 2028 is to have two white “Christian” men running.
Please compare and contrast Rahm Emmanuel to Gavin Newsom. I know too much about the latter and too little about the former.
