The Truth Is the Best Talking Point
Alex McCoy on Platner, AI accountability, and getting knighted (really!)
I used to meet interesting people on Twitter all the time. It happens infrequently these days, so I really value it when it does. I’ve been following Alex McCoy for a while now. It’s clear to me that he’s politically far to my left, and I like having my default responses challenged by him. I also find his views on AI responsible and insightful, so I wanted to talk with him at length.
We had a wide-ranging conversation--from the Graham Platner implosion to data centers to Alex’s experiences at immersive medieval battle events. Alex gives us an explicit call to action (tell Congress to get moving on AI regulation!) and a lot to think about in terms of how campaigns--for offices and issues--are run and won.
Topics Discussed
Graham Platner’s Senate campaign collapse and what it means for progressive candidate recruitment
Trust, accountability, and the “the groups are the problem” debate in Democratic politics
What voters actually want from elected officials
AI’s growing role in hiring, firing, workplace surveillance, and government decisions
The AI industry’s political spending and lobbying power
How to actually get your member of Congress to pay attention to AI
Alex McCoy’s immersive medieval battle reenactment hobby
