I’m just here to say that I LOVED Yesteryear, as did my reading group.

You hire Jeremy Allen White and don’t show him?! Absolutely criminal.

I'm mainly an audio only listener... so I wanted to compliment Beth on the upgrades to the background of her "studio" space. I remember the last time I actually watched video before this and Beth sharing she was still figuring out what she wanted. Looks much better now!

I absolutely agreed with your comments, Beth, on the Mandalorian movie! I love the Star Wars movies having seen the real 1st one in 1977 and read alot of the books ( before Disney bought the rights and changed everything). My son loved the movies and watched all 6 every new yrs eve; he purchases numerous books and suggested I'd like them and I sure did :such great world building/expansion! He's now 35 and STILL reads them! But, Back to the movie: I've never been so bored in a movie in ages! My hubby fell asleep for awhile, as did the SUPER SW fan sitting next to me!!! I had read Project Hail Mary last year, loved it, as I did the movie!! Now THERE was an excellent plot , casting (Ryan Gosling was suberb), and CGI!!!! Thanks for all your comments!!!

The Onion also has some thoughts on Star Wars and it combines two topics of PP discussions in a brilliant way https://www.instagram.com/reel/DY79dHwAXxW/?igsh=eDhhZDFhcXI1eWxt

As you ended the episode with “I hope your summer is off to a good start” Iw anted to cry knowing we still have 8 days of school left here in Charlotte. So so jealous of everyone who is out there in full summer mode.

I think movies have gotten longer because TV has gotten so much longer and better. When we have multiple series with hour long episodes and excellent effects and acting, movies have had to compete.

I'm so sick of the star wars spinoffs and movies. They truly oversaturated the market. I'm more of a Trek fan and they oversaturated the market for us too, but I've watched it all regardless... like a good little consumer 😆

We’ve been to Project Hail Mary, which my wife liked but stressed me out. And to the sheep detectives, which was just as corny as you’d expect but delightful. I bought tix to see the devil wears Prada 2 this week and then my sister had a bday gathering so we didn’t go. Which is wayyyy more than we’ve seen in the past few years

Coming here to cheer on Project Hail Mary in every possible way. If you enjoy audiobooks, please go download this IMMEDIATELY. It is FABULOUS. The way they do Rocky’s voice is so neat and the emotional payoff at the end is unforgettable. Even better than the movie, although the movie did a very good job.

Came here to make sure someone had mentioned how great the audiobook was 💙

Thank you Sarah for the peptalk for the Texans. I'll flag this episode to come back and listen to when I'm not feeling hopefully. The idea of Ken Paxton being elected yo the senate make me physically ill to even consider so I need to remain hopeful.

Keep doing what you're doing ladies. You make a difference!

The problem is that the faith of those making those comments and historically Christianity. Baptist Pastor in Texas (ret.) here. Their faith has three nonnegotiable tenets: (1) antiabortion; (2) anti queerness; (3) anti Democrats. With a healthy doses of complementarism. 47 would never match historical Christian values. But he has them convinced that their 3 concerns is their priority.

This has been my experience of conservative American evangelicals as well, Xergio. They are locked into a culture war mentality where those three are the Most Important issues (as well as a large persecution complex).

James Talarico's beliefs and moral compass (and honestly, religious beliefs, even though they can't see it) are so much closer to their professed morality, but they have been convinced that those three items are literally more important than personal virtue.

I listened to an episode of a conservative podcaster arguing with David French about why he doesn't think Trump is really pro-life, and she could not get over the fact that he called a trans colleague by their preferred name and maybe even used their preferred pronouns.

To me this has totally lost the plot. THAT is what you're getting hung up on? While French pointed out that gutting USAID has caused literal deaths she's hung up on pronouns. But here we are. The conservative media ecosystem has people in a death grip. And I do mean a death grip. I don't know how to reach those people, so Talarico has his work cut out for him.

But I also don't like the mentality that we can't do it. That we should give up before we begin, because that will ensure defeat! So I'm trying to remain hopeful and determined not to give up (from afar, as I'm not a Texan). I have a sister-in-law who lives in TX and she will be delighted to vote for Talarico in November, so that is something.

Yes to Project Hail Mary!!! The best movie in a long time and I agree, somewhat unexpected. We went mostly because it was a movie my husband and son could agree on. I thought it would be the usual action movie..... it was so much more!

I didn't think I would laugh out loud several times, would be moved and really love the characters, especially not that much of just one actor.... but it was phenomenal. We love quoting Rocky's quirky comments in the family now 😉

I haven't been to a movie theater since before the pandemic and it's mostly because movies are too long. I grew up in the 80s when movies were 90 minutes long, and that is the correct length. (Exception for the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice which is perfect at 5 hours.) So I am with Sarah on movie length. I also love that she described Yesteryear as "the tradwife novel that everyone hates but is selling like hotcakes" because that really sums it up. I plowed through that book, couldn't put it down, and the more I think about it the more I dislike it.

And finally, the original Star Wars movies came out when I was a child so they were pretty formative, but I have come to realize that I don't like them. They are not good movies. So Sarah was pretty much channeling my brain on all things during this segment.

Almost didn't listen to the end. I could talk for FOREVER about how good Project Hail Mary is. Stratt for President! (I'm kidding...mostly)

The twitter guy who prefers Paxton's faith is not perplexing to me at all. He decided that Democrats are the enemy tribe, and he reasons backwards into a stupid and wicked conclusion, because he is a stupid and wicked person. Many such cases...

I'm glad Sarah mentioned that blue states are the ones who adopted independent redistricting. It's very possible that if we stuck to our guns, we'd have good-governanced ourselves out of a midterm victory this year, which is totally unacceptable at this time. All of this is a consequence of the uncomfortable truth that our system is very dumb. Any system where electoral outcomes can vary wildly based on how lines on a map are drawn is a dumb system. Yes I am still mad about 2012 when Democrats got more votes but still "lost" the House, to say nothing of 2000 or 2016.
