This week, there was a little bit of everything. So, we thought we might recap where you catch up and see it all here.
Good Trouble
This week, we found out that Elon Musk could not purchase a State Supreme Court in Wisconsin (shout out to Ben Wickler and the WisDems!) and Cory Booker decided to make some good history and beat Strom Thurmond’s filibuster record.
Sarah celebrated all this with a bonus Good News brief on Wednesday.

More to Say About Deporting Venezuelans to El Salvador
Sarah and I have discussed the Trump administration sending people to El Salvador. I needed to get into the details more.

Congressional Infighting
This week, all voting in the United States House of Representatives came to a standstill because Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna and a group of bipartisan Congressional Representatives wanted to allow proxy (remote) voting for new parents, and Speaker Mike Johnson did not.
Sarah and Beth discuss:

Liberated from Low Prices and Easy Access to Goods
In case you missed it, Thursday was Liberation Day, when Donald Trump revealed his tariff plan to save us from (among other things) overpriced goods from penguins and treated us to the only clip of Donald Trump speaking that Beth has wanted to listen to multiple times.
We would love for you to weigh in on whether or not you believe the President has ever purchased his own groceries.

Alise: I read (and loved) the new Hunger Games book, Sunrise on the Reaping, in less than a day while on spring break. You can read all my thoughts about it on my new Substack, where I'll be regularly sharing what I'm reading, watching, eating, and otherwise doing in my limited free time.
Maggie: I am starting a 48-part quest to read a biography (authored by a woman) of every President of the United States (is this my political coping strategy? Yes. Is it working? Actually, yes.) I’ll be sharing my journey through the Presidents here on Substack. This month, I’m reading Making the Presidency by Lindsay M. Chervinsky on John Adams.

I would bet so much money that trump has never set foot in a grocery store in his life much less shopped for groceries.
Maggie - i feel like you should supplement each book by listening to the corresponding Presidential podcast episode! It is still one of my faves almost 10 years later, and I've gone back and listened to different episodes from time to time.
