This really resonated with me: “I don’t want to be reckless, but I listen to them and realize that’s not my risk. My risk is not being willing to leave it all on the field for what I believe matters.”

Beth, you are consistently both generous and honest in your assessment of people and politics and life, and it is exactly why I value you so much. Thank you.

Maybe it’s just me, but you DO have fun. Did anyone else knock election season out of the park with a fully produced musical episode. I submit: NO THEY DID NOT!

All that said, I appreciate you sharing these reflections and where it’s making you think about things differently. Especially drawn to the risk taking notes too shared.

I always appreciate that both you and Sarah take such care putting your episodes together and actually DO your homework! If I listen to another podcast and hear a very simple mistake I am often tempted to tune out.

It’s actually pretty scary to think that Joe Rogan uses easy, approachable conversations to seem so engaging and that’s why he’s so popular. He’s a perfect propaganda machine.

I appreciate this exercise. I was a little surprised that there was an expectation of homework having been done, particularly on Rogan’s part. This podcast is listed under the “comedy” genre on both Apple & Spotify, and I think he is known to regularly get some version of intoxicated while recording. I don’t really have much expectation of lots of homework and sources in that context, but maybe that’s just me. Perhaps more could be expected of Musk because of the current position he holds. Also, I don’t remember any similar discussion about whether homework had been done by Gavin Newsome for his podcast, which is actually listed in the “News” genre, but maybe I am forgetting that part of that discussion. I also remember lot of comments of how bad Newsome’s was and “ugh-ing” about why he did it, the NYT even said he was clearly uninformed about some of his guests’ actual beliefs, backgrounds, & previous statements, but, in his case, I didn’t hear any mention of his “getting away with it” because of his whiteness.

This was great. Thank you for sharing both sides of the coin. I'm appreciating how both you and Sarah have been leaning into finding the positives on the other side of the aisle. Many in far left camps aren't fans of this but we need to come together more, and I thank you for continuing to lead the way for us in this very important work that we can actually do in our daily lives on a small-scale with our family and friends. It's hard for me to do "big" things rn as i'm i'm the "panini" stage of life, but this work of being open-minded to those outside our bubble is actually VERY hard work, and I'm appreciating the challenge. 🙏

Yes, thanks for listening to that. I’m not giving either of those guys my time. Your synopsis is what I assumed. Blech.

Thank you for doing this Beth. I am confident I could not. As I was reading I was thinking - I know AI could take this podcast and make the voices sound female and I wonder what the reaction would be for exactly the same words spoken.

That would be so interesting to see if it would make difference. Would they just sound like insufferable woman instead?

My husband reminds me often that most people are not good at their job and don't take it seriously. Musk & Rogan are great examples.

I always appreciate your time and willingness to listen and reflect on these types of things. I feel like I would need to be on blood pressure meds to take them on. 😂

During this 3+ hour conversation, did Rogan ask Elon how he manages to balance his 14 kids (w/ 4 different women) while running 6 companies & heading up DOGE? I can assure you if a woman were be interviewed, that topic would be the entirety of the conversation.

Or even just the 6 companies. Is ceo-ing a part time gig?

Between all of the work you did with Project 2025, and now this? You deserve allllll the virtual cobblers. We're thankful for you diving into the things we're all curious about, but can't handle diving into ourselves.

Thanks for listening so I did not have to. I really get how the seriousness turns people off. I want to ask you if you ever used to read the political magazine GEORGE? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_(magazine))I had a subscription. It was only around for about a year before John F Kennedy, Jr. died and the magazine stopped publishing. I liked their style, and I think you might benefit from something like it. I remember how they would take a celebrity not known for politics and would ask them what they would do if they were president. It might be fun to have little breaks where you play prerecorded interviews with people on the street, and get some first hand opinions about the thoughts of the day. I often feel the reason people on the right use offensive words is because it gives them a rise to think of upsetting someone they disagree with. If more people would act like the teacher who just lets the words pass without emotion, they may stop acting up. Anyway, I enjoy what you do. Have some chocolate and watch something to cool down. We appreciate you. :)

I did the same - lost three hours of my life. It was hard to listen to, an I appreciate the fact that you were able to detail things that are inspiring. I'm not sure I would call those things. Inspiring, but it's a evidence of how you try to be so thorough in your work.
