I like the idea of writing one's own obituary, but for different reasons than what Sarah and Beth were talking about. I'm a pastor, and any time that I do a funeral for someone who is old enough that they have outlived a spouse or their close friends, I have noticed that when I ask the family to tell me about the person, they mostly just say that they were a loving parent or grandparent. That is important, don't get me wrong, but people have entire lives outside of children or grandchildren. Everyone should be able to have a funeral or a memorial service where more can be said about them than their status as a parent or grandparent.

Still listening but had to chime in immediately to echo what Sarah said about young people seeing Trump as a joke. I teach college students--this college has a very liberal and/or progressive-leaning student body in a blue state (which attracts a student body from all 50 states) so that is the caveat. However, several weeks ago I was listening in to them discuss the election. None seem to assume that Trump can't win, but it was so clear that they regarded him as pathetic, and just weren't freaked out about the prospect. The vibe I got was, we've been with this guy since middle school, and we can take anything he dishes out. I often feel when I interact with my students, we are in good hands with our future leaders.
