Katie, I’m American, and I’ve been extremely disappointed with the coverage about this as well. I don’t think it’s cute, funny, or just “Trump spouting off”. It’s disrespectful and appalling. Thank you for writing in. Thank you PP team for sharing her letter.

Katie - as a fellow Canadian (waving hello from Central Ontario) I really appreciated your letter. You put into words what I, my family, and friends are feeling.

I have the deepest respect for Mexico and Canada. They don’t deserve to be dealing with us and the regime threats to enter or absorb them in the clusterfuck of our politics.

I have been extremely concerned about our national safety and the fact that as of now (2/23/25) we are even less safe and extremely vulnerable due to the upheaval in our military.

I hope Canada and Mexico stick to their policies and either add tariffs of their own or look for other partners to meet their country’s needs.

Sadly, the US has shown that we are poor neighbors and allies. The US will not or cannot learn its lesson and rather hold on to bigotry, greed and little regard for its people…those of us who have toiled and given our blood, sweat and tears for the hope of this nation. I fear that we will have to give the lives of our sons and daughters to upcoming wars or those of us who have non-caucasian children, will lose them in violence just because they exist and the current regime thinks they shouldn’t.

So, I hope Canada can weather the upcoming storm and have pity on us, which we probably don’t deserve due to our country’s choices 😔

Well, all of this made me cry. Out of compassion and sorrow and fear and hopefulness and then I really thought I was going to make it through the Hurricane story until the last paragraph when the whole team is with him at the end. Gah, yes, pass the tissues. It’s fine, I was due for a good dog cry.
